1. Bergen images (introduction)

There is a big demand for images of Bergen and, in order to help the many agencies, businesses and organisations that contact us every week for pictorial material for websites, ads, brochure material etc., we have made available an exclusive selection of images of Bergen in this image shop. The digitalised photos are made available to you just a few minutes after you order them.

If you would like to use pictures for preparing drafts before ordering them, you can click on the small pictures in the search window. The images will then appear in a larger format with a watermark.

Improper use of the images in breach of the terms and conditions of use is subject to a penalty charge of NOK 5,000 per photo in addition to the amount you pay for use of the
photo.

How to use the photo service:
To find the image you want, browse using the arrows at the bottom of the screen or enter search criteria such as subject or category in the menu on the left.

Once you find a relevant image, just click it to display detailed information on its subject, photographer, available formats etc. If you want to order the photograph, just click "Order" to place it in your shopping cart.

Once you have finished making your selection, click "Continue" (the button at the bottom).
The content of your shopping cart is displayed; click the image number to view a photograph in a larger format, together with more detailed information such as subject matter, description, photographer, crediting required etc. Next to each image there are three columns in which you must tick the purpose for which you intend to use each photograph.

In order to receive image files without watermarks, you must tick at least one of these for each image and specify your planned use in greater detail.

You are required to fill out all the information marked * before gaining access to the non-watermarked photographs in our image bank. Once you have read and accepted our terms, please click " Continue ".

The terms and conditions of use will then appear. You have to accept them for your order to be approved. In the final step in the order process you provide your credit card and payment information. 4. Terms of use

Our image bank is designed to further the marketing of Bergen as a travel destination.

Please note that the photos can only be used in connection with the marketing of Bergen and as a rule, they can only be used by tourist-trade related enterprises and organisers as well as by the press. The photos can be used in brochures and other publications in which the aim is to promote tourist traffic to Bergen. The photos cannot be used for commercial purposes such as postcards, T-shirts and unrelated advertisements.

The use of photos in contravention of the lending conditions will result in you being invoiced for their use at the individual photographers’ current rates. The price will depend on the use and the size of edition. In addition a penalty charge of NOK 5,000 per photo applies.

The use of images in accordance with the guidelines mentioned above is free for users. If you are in doubt about whether your use complies with the guidelines for borrowing from the image database or if you wish to use the photos for other purposes, please contact Bergen Tourist Board, photoservice@visitBergen.com, tel.: +47 55 55 20 10.

One copy of the publication in question or a link to the website must be submitted to the Bergen Tourist Board, P.O. Box 4055 Dreggen, NO-5835 Bergen or photoservice@visitBergen.com, immediately after production.

Photos which are downloaded from the database may only be used for the purpose stipulated in the order. They must then be deleted. If you wish to use the images for other purposes in addition to or instead of the purpose stipulated when ordering, you must send a new order. The person who orders the photos is responsible for their being used in compliance with the lending conditions and the purpose stated when ordering.

Onward distribution of photos to other users is not permitted.

All photographs used must be credited as instructed in our image bank, for example "Photo: Bergen Tourist Board/Per Eide". (The name of the photographer and crediting required is displayed when you click on the small image.)

5. Downloading files

If you are unsure about which files to download, we suggest you read our helpful comments on file formats, image quality etc. Please note that you can also have image files sent directly to your advertising agency/printer. This is a pay service for which you will be invoiced by Screenresort as. A price list is displayed in ch. 6.

5.1 Image formats
Every photograph in our image bank is identified by a unique six-character image number. Bergen's logo, for example, bears the identification bp0050.

This number refers to all the image formats and files available for this photograph. To distinguish these, however, we have added two additional characters. These are shown in the table below. In addition, a suffix identifies the file type, e.g. ".jpg":

(1)

5.2 Usage
For images to be used in Web presentations, select "ls" or "lm". For brochures, catalogues and other printed matter, you must select "hs", "hm" or "hl".
These will also provide the best results in documents produced on your own printer, because most modern colour printers offer a higher resolution than your computer screen (72 dpi).
However, in certain cases, the lower resolution images may yield more accurate colours. This is because som of our high-resolution image files are in CMYK format, while the lower resolution files are in RGB format, which normally has a greater colour span.

5.3 Image quality
Many of the photographs in our image bank have been specially scanned for us and are of very high quality suitable for high-quality reproduction. We have scanned them in two resolutions, so that you may scale the images to the size you are printing without deterioration in quality.

The photographs that have been specially scanned are labelled "H" to indicate "high quality".
Other images, for example those converted from a Photo CD, are labelled "M" for medium quality. However, this does not necessarily indicate that they are of lower quality, merely that the scanning has not been quality assured by our image provider, Screenresort as.

5.4 Which image should you download?
For printed matter, it is always best to download the high-resolution image file that is closest to the format you are actually going to use. In other words, if the photograph is being reproduced in size A5 or smaller, you should use a file for which the last character of the image number is "s" (small).

You can also use this file type for formats slightly exceeding A5.
For internet purposes you will find that the low-resolution RGB files yield the best results. It is also best to use RGB files in MS PowerPoint and similar presentations, and in MS Word etc.

5.5 A warning about the JPEG format
Most of the photographs you download from our image bank are in the JPG format. Every time you save an image in this format it will be compressed and thus lose some of its quality. We therefore strongly recommend that you avoid saving the image repeatedly. It is best to convert the file to an image format which does not reduce the quality when you save it.

In order to reduce the risk of reduced quality, we also recommend that you burn a CD-ROM or send the original file directly to your advertising agency/printer. Please also read our comments on image quality above.
Image files that are delivered on CD-ROM or via ISDN are often in the TIFF format. Although this is also a compressed format, you do not risk reducing the image quality through repeated saves.
